The Perfect Farm Mailbox... and More...

Took a little country walk on a road we never walked on before...
although just a short hop away.  Come along...

It is farmland here and this mailbox is so fitting I think...

But right next door is this wonderful property...

Discovered these old markers or county boundary lines.
When whizzing by in a car - these kinds of things go unnoticed...

The sky is always fun to observe - it is truly God's handiwork.

And we returned via our rail trail.

Boho Occasional Barn Sale Near Hershey, PA - Saturday Sightings...

Move over cottage, shabby chic, primitive, farmhouse and
whatever other current style trend there has been lately.
There's a new look in town... literally!

Today I (w/a sweet friend) did my first garage sale run of the season. (brrrr!!)
One was advertised as a barn sale - so I made it my first stop.
I knew the address well - it's a local landmark and the
family homestead of friends of ours...

But one step inside that door and I was blown away.
This was obviously not your average 'garage sale'!  Oh my...

This barn was stuffed to the rafters with displays so amazing
I couldn't begin to take it all in...

I mean - let's put a gorgeous set of pink roses china in a pile
of straw why don't we?  And throw in a rope while we're at it?  :)
(My favorite display of the day...)

An industrial desk was full of lab currations and more...

Furniture - yes they had furniture -
very awesome and unique furniture...

See that chunky sea green beauty beside the flags?

Lots of nifty art too.

And though not shown here,  some pieces were huge.
Enough to fill - well - a barn wall!

The property has lots of goats and chickens.
'Lambie' here was rejected by his mother and is being bottle fed.
At 1 month old; he ran among the shoppers as the barn sale mascot.
You can be sure I gave him some love.  Here he's with his
surrogate mother and shop owner...

They plan to be open every 6 weeks or so and call themselves
'BohemiAntiques'.  Did you catch that?  They're all about
Bohemian style... just the look that's been catching my heart lately.
Boho has cropped up in this post and this post and this post and even way back in this post.

Look out Anthropologie... there are are few local gals giving you a
run for your money - and MUCH, much more affordably.
Be sure to check out their website right here for the address and
any upcoming sale dates.

And yes, I found stuff... here and at another great stop.
But this post is long enough - so keep checking the shop.   They'll be new listings this week.

This overflowing creek on the property was our view as we left...
What a great start to the season.  Thanks for joining me!  ~Joyce

Saturday Sightings - Abandoned Building Surprise...

If you checked out yesterday's post - you'll remember I visited a
local store's indoor yard sale.
It was behind the brick building you can just barely see in the photo below...

That brick building was once a shoe factory and still retains
its original sign on the front.

Currently it is in a state of disrepair.
Check out the view from the back...

I had to wonder why someone isn't restoring this gem.
(Easy enough for me to say huh?)
It's right along Main Street and not exactly the town's finest spot.

For fun, I did a little online research and learned - to my surprise -
that there has been a developer working on acquiring this property for years.
And they hope to begin renovations this spring!  How 'bout that?
Check out their proposed office and apartment building...

I'm beyond excited!  I love it when old spaces get 'recycled'!
I also find it interesting that according to the online news article
the current owner stores 'aircraft parts' in the building.
Really?  Seems a bit risky.  Hope they don't need climate control
and not sure I want to be flying on any of those planes...

But here's the cute part... Way down at the bottom of the building
someone expressed the apparent sentiment of this old edifice...
I had to smile!  Change is often painful -
but somehow I think this old gal in brick will fare just fine.

Oooh - I hope it happens.  Come on Spring!  ~Joyce

Saturday Sightings - Yard Sales & Old Fashioned Days...

This was one of those 'made in heaven' days.  I learned of some
yard sales along a long country road and made that my morning mission.
The first sale was at this old red barn...

They had a bunch of that chippy red barn wood for sale -
but someone was buying the whole pile when I arrived.
No!!!  Thankfully - he rejected a few boards - so 6 came home with me.
Price?  Just five!!!! cents a piece!

I oohed and aahed over the project potential and the
barn owner was all too happy to show me her project... love!

Who wouldn't pull in this lane?

I didn't buy anything - but did steal a shot of their lovely flower bed.
But I did buy lots of 'stuff' other places.

Roadside stands were plentiful.  Loved these awesome cabbage planters for sale...

And I bought some really big gourds at this one... 2/$1!
And hmmm...dried grass for fall decorating?  I like it!
Then - I wound my way to the other end of town and visited a
local event called Old Fashioned Field Days.
Turns out it was 'free' - and very well done!
My favorite display was The Wash House...

...where the youngsters could try their hand at old time laundry...

There were wagon rides...

Hit and miss engines of all types...

And lots of living history demonstrations...

I wanted to stay for lunch at this stand.
The sausage with cooked peppers and onions smelled wonderful!

And a table set with burlap?  Be still my heart...

My only purchase was some fresh roasted peanuts...

While a bluegrass gospel band played in the background...

Loved this day!  And was blessed to be able to have it.

Till next year...

Local Garden and Produce Sightings...

I took a cycle ride (motorcycle) with My Love today.
We meandered local back country roads.
I'm sharing just a few shots from our quick journey.

At one point we drove near my brother's house... so we stopped in.
Yep - they live in a genuine restored log cabin...

My sister-in-law has quite the green thumb and
 always has beautiful garden scapes...

She puts me to shame!

We also passed this cute farm stand that I never knew was there...

Their prices were right - I may revisit them on occasion!

They even have their own honey...
We weren't able to get pictures - but this farm actually raises deer.
Check out all their fawn and deer pictures here.

So not a lot to offer today -
just some local sites that were part of my afternoon.
