Selling My Youth - An 80s Music Post...

As a teenager and young adult - I was sucked into the
Contemporary Christian Music scene.  I'm not much of a fan now -
but I lived and breathed it then.   For some reason - I still have all
my old records - decades later!  And I've decided it's time for a

Turns out I was a big fan of Evie - she was on the softer side.
I actually bought 4 of her records new I believe!  Kinda a big deal
for this gal who had a pretty limited budget at the time...

But always a study in contrasts - I was also a big fan of David and the Giants -
a group with much more of an edge to their style.
In fact much of my music had an edge. Why?

I believe part of me was trying to prove something to those around me.

I was raised in a somewhat conservative Christian home - but had
my ways of trying to fit into the the 'liberal' crowd....
I'm also realizing in my older and wiser? years - that music can be a bit of a drug.

Diving music carries you along.
I heard some of  the words - but I really heard the music.

As I'm relistening to these albums to make sure they play well -
I'm realizing that the messages in many of them were a bit - well - shallow.

Others tho - have stayed with me for life.
'Casual Christian' by DeGarmo & Key left a strong impact.
I don't wanna be, I don't wanna be a casual Christian
I don't wanna live, I don't wanna live a lukewarm life
Because I wanna light up the night
With an everlasting light
I don't wanna live the casual Christian life

I'm also finding it amusing that my bargain hunting endeavors
started very early in life.  I 'd go to my local Christian bookstore
and search through their discounted bins looking for overlooked treasures.

And I found some!
Stuff that I took a chance on but wasn't stuff I had ever heard of.
I believe The Hope was one of those groups...

So it's a trip down memory lane for me this week.
A bit of a soul searching time...
Life in the 80's... it was what it was.

New Listings...

Take a peek at some of the new listings I have up right now.
This time - on eBay.  I plan to keep adding through the week.
So if it's not up tonight - it will be - keep checking! (And more to come)...

Do you love red velvet jewelry boxes?  This one has a unique shape...

Also a uniquely sized beaker or flask...

A great sign in gold calligraphy for your home office...

Not one but 2 choral music books - with a great look...

This old cast iron advertising bank is figural - but I'm not positive on the shape.
I'm guessing a washing machine.  Any thoughts?

I'm also listing a whole grouping of Sunday School
and Bible story books and papers...

Gotta love vintage!  The new stuff just doesn't have the same appeal.

Fall Finds....

I'm sharing a few of the finds from my fun weekend
of estate and garage sale shopping.
Little crocheted dress hotpads and gloves?  Oh yeah!

The prim house is actually 3 stacking or nesting houses.
Not old - but certainly fun - for Fall or Christmas!
Love church hymnal racks...
Faux roses that are amazingly real looking -
25 cents for the whole lot.  I kind of like them with the
primitive candle & tin that cost me a whole 37 cents.

I'm not sure how to best utilize this towel rack -
(I'm assuming that's what it is).  Any ideas?
Great tablecloth too - just 50 cents for all that openwork!
The old wood oval picture frame was just - well - pennies!
(yeah, I know - I couldn't believe it either.)
I like it with the addition of some sheet music.
Just sweet detailing!
I've listed a few of these things on eBay if you're interested.

Weekend Finds...

Just had to share some of the goodness I picked up
at the village sales over the weekend.
This is what I had time to photograph.
Vintage red always makes a great statement.
Again I am struck by how my finds seem to
blend together in an instant vignette.
There is great coloring to these feedsacks.
Many of these finds are available here and here.
Those old sleds (by the pole) were going for about $15.
I needed to stick to 'smalls' this time, so I left them there.
But they had a great look!
Till next year little village!

Unexpected Majolica Find...

Recently at a thrift shop - I purchased several planters or jardinieres.   They were found in different locations in the shop.
To my surprise - I realized later that the one jardiniere matched
a tall 'vase'.   Turns out it wasn't a vase at all - but the stand or
pedestal to the jardiniere.  What a pretty summer find!
Just listed today in my eBay Shop.
I'll be back soon with the follow-up of my 'Stay Tuned' post...
