Filtered Light...

Sometimes when shooting photos - the light can be too bright.  Here's a quick fix I did the other day...
The extra lace helped keep the sharp sunbeams
from landing where I didn't want them.  Yet still
left plenty of natural light get by.

Old Newspaper Project...

I've been in need of a tray for the bathroom at
our cottage.  Funny how when I wasn't looking
for one I'd see them all the time at thrift shops.
But alas,  my patience paid off and I found an unfinished wooden tray for around $1.
This is the coloring of the bath. (Want to repaint
that tub all white, but for now...)   I do want to
keep the blue striped ticking curtains that hides
 wall storage...
...so I didn't want to make the tray creamy white.  Instead I opted for this gray blue that I had in
my paint stash...
We found some old newspapers in the cottage
when we bought it.   I cut out any health
and beauty advertisements that I could find and decoupaged them to the inside bottom.
This turned out a bit like a child's
cut and paste project - but it will do.
It'll be fun to read the classified ads in the background.
After a couple of coats of poly - I think it will
serve us nicely in a humid space.

Wealth and Honor...

Yours, LORD, is the greatness and the power...
for everything in heaven and earth is yours.
Yours, LORD, is the kingdom...
Wealth and honor come from you;
you are the ruler of all things.
I Chronicles 29:11-12a
My first pic. w/ my new camera My Love bought me!
This morning in church we were challenged
to give something away this week - something
that has a hold on us.  It's not ours anyway -
but simply being lent to us from the Father.
What will I give?

Garden Bicycles...

I find wonderful greeting cards at 'my' thrift shop.  They sell at 5/$1 and it's amazing the pretty cards that get donated.  Recently I picked up these
sweeties with gorgeous garden inspired photos...
Just look at those vintage and rusty bicycles
adorned for front yard display...
These are essentially friendship cards.  One reads...
Our friendship is more than being together.
It's being together and not noticing
when the hours spill into years.
I wish each of you a friend, or 2, like that!
Photos are all by Nancy Matthews for Christian Art Greetings.

Simple Bouquets...

For quick and easy floral arrangements - try
using just one flower type with a filler...
In this case - only purple statice with
baby's breath makes a beautiful display.

My Photo-A-Day theme - 'where you work'...

I work from home processing web and phone orders for
Messick's - a farm equipment company.
It's part time and I love it!
But it makes finding time to dabble in antique sales
(another love) just a bit more challenging.

Handwriting...

Today's February Photo-A-Day theme -
'handwriting'...
I found this pretty handwritten name on the back
of a vintage Easter post card.  Oh the lovely script that flows from the tip of a fountain pen.

The post card is available in a
Lot of 4 in my Etsy shop...

Bears Our Burdens...

Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior,
   who daily bears our burdens.
Psalms 68:19
Taken in Ireland
What a precious reminder this was for me today.
My burdens need not be mine alone.  Indeed
Jesus wants to carry them for me!

Bargain Fruit...

Don't overlook fruit that is priced to sell quickly
or is a bit on the ugly side.
Yesterday I picked up a bag of pears for
just 50 cents.
In the case of pears and pineapples - the best
looking are not necessarily the best tasting.
The one with the most brown spots on the
far right is the next one ripe for eating.
 Deliciousness!!
And I'm liking that yellow in my old
chipped blue bowl.

Tips For Recycled Candle Making...

A few weeks back I did a post about
I was really happy with the results - but
struggled with how to deal with cleaning
wax from varying containers, etc.
Problem solved!
I found 2 great how-to's.
For cleaning out old candle jars -
And for the actual recycled candle making
Wow -  we all gonna save money on candles with this
recycling process!

Saving Flower Petals For...

Some of my and my mother's fresh flower
bouquets are on their last leg.  But it seemed
a shame to toss all those pretty petals...
...they will be perfect for adding to my
handmade paper recipes.
Just like that I have 2 bags full!
That will make a lot of paper.

Thrifted Outfit...

My antique biz friend is a thrifter like me.
She comes up with the cutest outfits.
This is one she wore last week...
Dress was $4 and had a wide enough skirt to
layer another ruffled skirt underneath - perfect
with those cute boots.  The entire outfit is
thrifted - how fun is that?
Use a second skirt as a petticoat - love it!

I'd love to sell this phone - think anyone would want it?

Hearts and Candles...

We had a simple family Valentine's supper
tonight.   In a bit of rush - I tried to at least
have hearts and candles...
...all on top of a satin chocolate candy box.
(Thank you Jillian.)
The little glitter heart votive I  scooped up
this week for 47 cents.
 Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

Check out the other hearts at Photo A Day.

My Gluten Free Cookbook...

This post is lining right up with today's
Photo A Day theme - 'blue'.  Many  years ago
I started gathering recipes and writing them in
this little notebook.  These are all gluten free-naturally recipes that I will send with my daughter when she has a home of  her own.
Hopefully it will be a quick reference for her
when she's preparing meals for herself (Celiac)
and/or her family.  Since she is now out of her
teens - I'd better get cracking with filling up
this little book!
I plan to make this recipe this weekend.
We're having another couple for a belated
Valentine's Day meal.  It's a tasty, easy recipe
and presents well!

True Beauty...

Do not let your adornment be merely outward...
rather let it be the hidden person of the heart,
with the incorruptible beauty
of a gentle and quiet spirit,
which is very precious in the sight of God.
