Zipper Flowers - Snow Day Project...

Inspired by blogland and Pinterest - I remembered I have
a bunch of zippers in my stash.  I figured I'll just whip up
some  zipper flowers - following a YouTube tute I found...
Turned out - I had only 1 metal tooth zipper.
Oh well - I could make 2 sweet flowers...

For now, I made them into refrigerator magnets...

This was a fun morning snow day project.  Yep -
it's only October - but this is what it looks like
out my back door...
 It's snowing like crazy...
With leaves still on the trees - go figure.

Vignettes...

In lieu of getting many projects done right now, thought
I'd share a few of the vignettes I put together this week.
I do these on top of the dress racks at the thrift shop
where I volunteer.  It's my favorite thing!
Most of our Fall things have sold - so we're gearing up
for Christmas.  I loved the graphics of that old
tree stand box - so I built a display around it...
A few greens go a long way...

Wedding Slippers and more...

It's such fun to go on treasure hunts.   Just look at
these adorable slippers I found this week...
which display well with more recent finds..
My local thrft shop sells greeting cards at 5/$1.00.
I picked up these wedding cards to have on hand.
Their original prices?
$3.99 and $4.99 each!

And I couldn't resist these sweet baby pillowcases.
Just 62 cents for the pair...
And then there's this vintage champagne silk fabric -
3 yards!

Oh I love treasure hunting!

Selling Picture Frames...

It's fun to sell old picture frames.  But frames
sell much better with a picture in them.  To fill
these sweet small metal oval frames - I turned to my
supply stash.  How about the old 1952 newspapers
I have on hand?  A quick snip of the scissiors -
and my frames are displayed with old
department store advertisments.  Aren't they cute?

Vintage or new wallpaper, greeting cards, calendars
and monograms are more filler ideas.

A Twig Treasury...

Farmhouse Vogue, an Etsy seller, honored me last week
by including me in her treasury entitled
Twig and Branch Art...
Do you see me there in the bottom left corner?
The little table and chairs set?
Farmhouse Vogue features 'upcycled and handmade
clothing & vintage wares'.
Here's a peek at some of her listings...

Don't you love her clothesline and barn wood background?

Through a Glass...

But when that which is perfect is come, then that which
is in part shall be done away.  For now we see through a
glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part;
but then shall I know even as also I am known.

Sweet Potatoes...Again...

Do you remember my post about our sweet potatoes?
Turns out my family is not as fond of baked sweet
potatoes topped with butter and brown sugar as I am.
(Guess we'll be making lots of sweet potato fries.)
But being Miss Frugal, I was not about to
throw away those baked sweet potatoes.  So, found
a Sweet Potatoes Brownie recipe and went to work...
To make the brownies gluten free - just replace the flour
with gluten free flour mix and add 1/2 t. xanthan gum.
Yummy!
This was my lunch today.   Baked
sweet potatoes are just as wonderful reheated.

Findings & Household Tips...

Thought I'd share a glimpse of some of my recent findings...
Twig doll furniture, an elepant planter, old lace curtains...
 and this wonderful book...
'Household Wisdom' is full of homemaking tips
& the photography is amazing...
Did you know bedding should be allowed to air out daily?
In other words - wait a while before making the bed
so the mattress and linens can breathe first.
(Most of us sweat during the night.)
Store linens on a shelf or in a drawer in the room where
it will be used.  This avoids an over-crowded linen closet
which can facilitate crumpling and staleness.
Bundles of lavender work great for scenting stored linens.
If you spend hours in the kitchen - you should avoid hard
surface flooring which is cold and tiring on the feet...
(looks great though doesn't it?)
Some garments and fabrics do better with hand washing.
Generally these pieces (lace, silks, wools, etc.) do not
do well with soaking...
What fun I'm going to have reading through this book.

Meaningful Monograms...

Every once in a while when I'm out scouting for treasures,
I see something 'just for me' that I have to pick up.
(Usually I'm just hunting for items to sell.)
Such was the case last week.  I was at a flea market and laying among the boxes of 'junque' were these precious linens...
Just look at all that lacy work...
Why were these special to me?  Because they have my mother's monogram.  She is 90 years old, not doing very well & feeling
like her time on this earth may be very short.  So I scooped them up.  And since I bought a number of other things from the same dealer - for very cheap - these were essentially 'free'!
Years ago I was fortunate enough to find green handtowels
with her full initals... 'AMH'  - appearing in the order her
name is now.  I know the middle initial is supposed to be
for the surname - but this was close enough for me...
If my mommy goes to heaven soon - my world will have
a huge void.  Needing to trust Jesus with this one.
