Friday Finds - Cute Shoes!

Spent some time in an antique mall today and found a few treasures 

that will go in my Etsy shop.  Shop items will be the spice tin, 

glass creamer, miniature nylons, sand timer and the girl's shoes...

The first 3 things I found in the shop were green.  I found that

 interesting since there's a 'green' day just around the corner.  

This old tole painted spice tin was a good find!

 And I've never seen an egg timer like this one adhered to a tin backing...

But the cutest find was these pink Childcraft mesh Mary Jane shoes.  

Too sweet!

I was also tickled to find a stack of printed tissue paper.  Many of

 your purchases will be wrapped in some of these pieces I am sure.

And the flag pieces were a great price but I'm not sure what 

I will do with those yet.

Earlier this week I found this Primrose pattern Fire King 

creamer and sugar.

Thrifty Thursday - Old Bicycles...

Do you have an old bicycle that is no longer fit to ride?

This advertising insert in my local paper yesterday featured 

a great shabby painted bicycle on the cover...
with a basket of flowers of course...

Let's notice some details that make this lovely 'work'.  

The tires - gotta paint the tires!  

And look - the chain is a mess - but with a slap of blue - 

it's a decorator's dream...

And the seat made me chuckle.  Nothing too fancy here - 

just some tied-on roses fabric to bring the bike up to cottage speed!

 removed them for approx. 24 hours to 'check on them'.  Apparently

Loved the old card to these hair pins... (look at those hairstyles)

  and still in such excellent shape.  I found 2 of these cards... 

and wouldn't you know it - my dog destroyed the 1 card.  

Thankfully - there is one remaining...

(It's not the 1st time she destroyed my inventory!)

Thrifty Thursday - Family Photos Home Decor...

One of the easiest and most inexpensive ways to decorate your

 home is with family photos.  I prefer photos in black and white for

 less jarring color.   And they blend with any decor style. 

I use photos in many sizes - whatever I happen to have in 

my collection.   This one is approx. 4" x 5".

(Me and 2 of my brothers)... 

And here's a wallet sized that is currently in a dish on a shelf. 

I prefer older photos - but any photo can be made black and white

 and look great.

For many years I had no old family photos.  I'd find old photos at

 yard sales and use them instead.  Then as the years passed - 

heirloom photos started to come my way.  

This one features my dad and his siblings...

And I use photos from all eras... some old - some less old...
(My Love's family...)

Sometimes it can be a challenge to find a frame for an older photo -

 especially cabinet cards like this one.  But it's been amazing to me

 how I stumble upon frames that fit.  This photo is very special to me - 

my mother as a baby!  And considering that her mother died when

 she was 8 weeks old - it's amazing that we have it.

This was another special frame find.  I found it in an antique shop - 

went home and measured and sure enough - a perfect fit for this 

old school group photo.  (my mother is in there...)

I prefer the older photos - but current photos in black and white 

(or sepia tones) look great too.

And an added bonus - family photos will be in vogue no matter

 what the latest decorating trends are.  You'll always be in style!

A Doll Stirs Up Memories...

We had time to stop at a thrift shop last evening on the way to 

an appointment. (Yes - I'm a bit of a thrift shop junkie...)  

My eye caught these dolls in little plastic bags - 

and immediately a memory was stirred....

When I was little - we had a doll just like the one in the crocheted dress.  

Except - it wasn't with my dolls and it wasn't in the toy chest.  

I am the youngest of 5 children - quite spread out - so many years

 and events occurred before I came on the scene.  My memory of

 this doll was that it was kept in a drawer in our dining room.

I don't remember ever knowing why she was there.  On occasion 

I'd open that drawer and get her out.  I was intrigued with her 

long black hair in pigtails... 

  

...and cute little red shoes that I now know are Mary Janes...

Why was she in a drawer?  Where did we get her?  

My parents are no longer here to ask.  I've checked with my 

siblings but they also don't know her story.  

And this pair of dolls?

I have never seen the boy doll so am quite tickled with this find.

Do you know anything about these cuties?  A little tidbit 

may  help unlock our family mystery.

But regardless -  it was still fun to embrace a small memory 

that I had long forgotten.
