Primitive Kitchen Decor...

Today - I'm sharing some of the kitchen decor in my brother's log home.  (see yesterday's post).  My sister-in-law has a wonderful eye for primitives.  There are no curtains at the windows - but these towels hanging to the side make a nice substitute...

They love old cupboards.  A little Easter vignette, primitive style, rests on top of this cupboard in their kitchen...
and the view inside the cupboard...

Across the room is a pottery laden old bench...
And here's a little nook above the microwave...
 I couldn't seem to get a good photo of their custom made kitchen cabinetry - but this gives you an idea...
All nicely in keeping with their old farm house.  Wish I had better equipment for taking indoor photos - but I like my 'carry anywhere point and shoot'.
(If anyone knows of a good simple camera that does better indoors - I'm in the market!)

No Parking...

My brother and his wife have a very lovely 200 year old home.  They've done amazing things with it - exposing the logs and so much more.  Wanted to share a picture of my favorite room in their house. This is their new - made to look old - bathroom...
Gotta love the location of that vintage white street sign!

More photos from this old log home at another time...

Recycled Skirt...

As I've mentioned in the past - it's hard for me to throw away clothing if I like the fabric.  Such was the case with this skirt.
The elastic waist had worn out and no one was wearing it.
But look at all those ruffles  - just adorable.
In my mind - I saw an apron.  So yesterday - it got a revamping...
Sold - thanks Kari!

Kitchen Project Idea...

While I spend today working on a project or two - here's one I didn't make for you to contemplate...
Taken at the lovely Vogt Farm Bed and Breakfast
These framed forks are intended to hold your recipe cards.  But since they are on a swing frame - I'm told they tend to shift from the position desired.  A better suggestion might be to use
an easel frame.  Still, they are cute,  no?

A Lesson From Wheat...

I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.  The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. John 12:24,25

A Pink Welcome...

Last week when we visited our local living history museum, Landis Valley, I was surprised at what I found on one of the houses.
Do you see what I see?...
This lovely stone and brick dwelling had pink doors!
How sweet is that?

Patches in Time...

There was a time when things were not discarded because they were no longer 'in style' or not preferred.   I think I like that 'time'.  These vintage aprons are from just such a time.  They have seen frequent washings and wear.  They have been carefully mended so that they could continue to be of use to their owner.  They have some scars - but they are beautiful.  There is something precious about not being tossed aside...

These feedsack aprons are available today on my eBay site.

Waiting...

Just wanted to share these photos with you for White Wednesday.  I love how they hint at 'what's to come'.   Things may be empty and 'waiting' now - but in a short while - there could be coats on those hooks and words on those pages.  They speak of 'tomorrow' to me... that things may not remain as they are - but there is the possibility of change - a good change.

Could it be that the purpose for which we are made may yet come to be?  I believe if we are following Jesus and His leading - the answer is a resounding 'yes'!  Is there anything you are waiting for?  I'd love to hear about it!

Sweet Bathrooms...

More photos from the Vogt Farm Bed and Breakfast in rural Mount Joy or Marietta, PA.  They have such unique private bathrooms for the guests.  Most have handpainted art on the walls.  These are some of my favorites...
And another view of the front entrance...
Be sure to check out their website by clicking the link above.
If you're ever in the area - it's a place you'll want to be sure to consider staying!  Still more photos to come.

Ticking & Pencils...

You know how one project leads to another?  Exactly...  When cleaning out my supply drawers - I found this glass refrigerator dish I was using as a drawer divider.  Seemed it could be better used in the kitchen.  My pens and pencils needed a new home - so there ya go...
Found some tin cans in the recycling bin.  Added some ticking fabric, trim and buttons of course.  And with the help of my glue gun - turned out a quick grade school project.
Cute little guys aren't they?

Here's where they sit - keeping pens and pencils at the ready...
A little project to celebrate my turning another year older today.  Thank you Lord for a blessed life!
(Not really, I did it 'just because'.)

Sheep...

Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

Curtain Ideas...

This week - I was honored to be invited to the Vogt Farm Bed and Breakfast to take pictures.  I'll share these over the next days or weeks.  But for today - I wanted to share some sweet curtain ideas that I found there.  First - hanging from a pink ribbon via little clothespins...
and second - these lovelies that are raised a bit with button ribbons.  Just two wonderful and easy ideas.
I think that pink ribbon qualifies me for Pink Saturday
over at How Sweet the Sound, so come visit me and
all the other pink participants there!

And here's a teaser of the B & B front entrance,

Favorite Find...

While I've found all kinds of nifty little treasures in the past week - I'm especially partial to this one.  Maybe it's because of my friend's collection that I recently highlighted.  At any rate - just look at this beauty - in excellent condition...
Found at the flea market for just a couple bucks!
Charles Kingsley - who lived in the 1800s, was a professor of modern history at Cambridge University.  He wrote several books, including The Water Babies, and of course many poems.

 I found a couple of his quotes that I thought needed sharing...

"Have thy tools ready. God will find thee work."
~~~~~~~
"All we need to make us really happy is something to be enthusiastic about."
And I'll leave you with a portion of poetry that can
be found in Kingsleys Poems (click to purchase)...
Easter Week by Charles Kingsley
See the land, her Easter keeping,
Rises as her Maker rose.
Seeds, so long in darkness sleeping,
Burst at last from winter snows.
Windows and Doors...
I have a fascination with old windows and doors.  And lately - I'm intrigued by those in white.  Enjoy...
