My mother turned 90 years young today. We have a big party planned for Sunday - but didn't want to ignore her actual day. So 2 of us took subs into her for lunch - (she lives on a skilled floor unit in a nursing home). Before leaving my home, I ran around the house finding goodies to use on the table.
Started with some vintage blue edge plates and kept in mind that she is a seamstress (still sewing little girl's dresses for overseas missions). That set the color and the theme. Grabbed a lace tablecloth, some blue striped ticking for a runner, some pretty vintage cloth napkins, blue goblets.. and then the fun.
a picture of her as a baby (the only one we have),
some old baby shoes,
a picture of her parents (amazingly in color),
some wooden spools of thread and lots of buttons.
Sorry for the less than grand pics - I'm helpless w/o a tripod. |
She's been wanting more buttons to sew on her dresses.
So we sorted through the buttons as we ate and
gathered some alike buttons that she can use.
So while it might look a little 'busy' - it was a lot of fun!

What a beautiful post. Your Mother looks great! Tell her Happy Birthday from NC. What a wonderful blessing for her to still be sewing for others.
How sweet! Happy Birthday to your Mama!
What a very sweet impromptu table setting. So perfect for your seamstress mother. Love that she was able to pick through the buttons while you ate. I think this is just precious, what you did. TFS! Found you from Common Ground.
