Frugal Displays for Thrifty Thursday...

I was busy creating displays again this week.  Let's look closer...

This first one is so simple.  The foundation is white candles and
small wooden boxes and square baskets.  Small baskets and boxes
abound at thrift shops - for pennies!  Add another white figurine and
some greenery and 'boom' - you've got a display that can span the seasons.

This wool sweater caught my eye and again - these abound at thrift shops -
for cheap!  The first scarf I paired with it sold immediately - so this one
is '2nd choice' - but cozy.   This display is all about nubby texture!

These big gold plates are easy to find.  And they work great for Fall.
The pretty scarf acts as a linen with a starting point on a mug tree.

Vignettes need varying degrees of height.  Just look at what you already have - in the proper heights - and add other things
in the colors you need to make it work.

Have fun!  ~Joyce

A Thanksgiving Vignette...

At the thrift shop - we are well into Christmas
as is common in the retail world.
To serve my conscience and give the proper nod to Thanksgiving -
I opted to do at least 1 display today for the special holiday.
But when I scoured the shop for themed items to use -
I could only find this one ceramic pilgrim couple...

So I worked with them best I could and was really happy with the result...

The rest of the displays I worked on were Christmas
but I didn't get photos except for this one...

Within minutes of completing the Thanksgiving grouping - guess what sold?
Yep - the little ceramic couple!
So now the display may not look much like Thanksgiving after all...
Hopefully we all express  some Thanksgiving every day anyway -
holiday or not.
And have I mentioned lately that I am so thankful for you?
Thanks readers!  ~Joyce

Our Thanksgiving 2015 - With Thrifty Finds...

Some scenes from our 2015 Thanksgiving...
I forgot to take pictures of the people and the food -
but here's a glimpse of the decor...

My starting point this year was this lovely runner that I picked up for $2.50.
It said 'elegant' to me - so I paired it with  lace...

I have some Libby glasses with leaves that are fun to pull out
for the season (from my mother).
And I found these leaves motif votives for 25 cents each at a thrift shop.
So I decided in lieu of center candles to have a votive
at each person' place setting...

More thrift finds (a Pilgrim family) graced the center...

I discovered I still had a few white mums blooming - so I made
small bouquets with some ornamental grass from my flower beds...

Our dining room is adjacent to the kitchen with no separating wall.
So on the kitchen table - I often put more decor.  Truth be told -
it's a place to store the everyday decor from my dining room table
now that it's in use for 'dining'.  Make sense?

I created a grouping that is visually appealing from all sides...

I carried the mums bouquet onto this table...

The terrarium has been a fun find ($9.99) that I'm enjoying filling for the seasons.
The bowls of acorns?  I came upon them on a walk yesterday and
stuffed my pockets figuring I'd find some place to use them.
This is where they landed...

The swan was a find from a yard sale this year for $2.

A few faux vines brings into 'fall'...

It was a good Thanksgiving for us with family members that
don't often get together.

How was your day?  ~Joyce
